Your Christmas tree topper ornaments, are the highlight of your tree. But sometimes it is hard to decide which Christmas tree topper you want to use.

Decorating your Christmas tree is fun. Don’t turn it into a chore that you hate. Remember how much you enjoyed decorating the tree when you were a child? Try and recapture that spirit and really make decorating your Christmas tree a fun event for all the family. Even the cat loves to help select the baubles. No, I’m joking. Probably!

What Type of Christmas Tree?

Before you even get to the stage of selecting your Christmas tree topper, you first need to decide whether you are going to have a real or artificial Christmas tree this year. Or, how about a bit of both?

Theme of Your Christmas Tree Decorations

Then you need to decide the theme of your Christmas decorations this year. Are you going to be colourful? Or are you going to stick with a single colour theme? Possibly you are going to go for elegant Christmas decor.

The themes and colours of your Christmas tree will help you decide on the tree’s crowning glory.

Choice of Christmas Tree Topper Ornaments is Dazzling

See what I did there! Yes, you will find a huge and dazzling array of Christmas tree topper ornaments. And now you have to select one! Or two. I normally have two trees, a large one in the living room and a small one in the dining room. I may expand to three this year and have one in the front window too. Yes, I love Christmas.

Once your tree is decorated, you’re faced with the task of crowning the tree.

Christmas Tree Topper Bow

Some people top a Christmas tree with large bows and let the strands hang down the sides of the trees. Bows can be really elegant and can be one of the best options to finish off a Christmas tree.

They look quite simple and so can add a touch of elegance to your Christmas decor. I quite like them, as I think they link in nicely with the baubles on the tree. And although I have seen them loads of times, I had no idea they were called finials!

Christmas Tree Topper Star

Many people place a glittery gold or silver star as the tree’s finishing touch. The great thing about the star is that they are available in so many different finishes. This means they will easily match your Christmas decorations whether they be plastic, metal or even rattan.

You can even get stars that light up for a very traditional Christmas feel!

If you have a gold colour scheme, then this star will work well.

If you want a nice but understated look, without the gold and glitter, then this star may be for you. It looks simple and elegant and matches a natural and rustic decor.

I normally have a star on my second, smaller tree. You do have to be careful that the star is not too heavy for the tip of the tree though as that will cause the top of your tree to droop. And no one wants a Christmas tree topper that won’t stay upright.

Christmas Tree Topper Angel

By far the most popular of the array of Christmas tree topper ornaments, is the Christmas angel.
The true meaning behind the use of Christmas angels as toppers vary, with some saying the topper has roots in ancient religious practices of placing a guardian angel on top of the tree to watch over the family. But regardless of the history behind the angel, using one as a tree topper can make your tree radiant. I have one on my main Christmas tree.

Just like the variety of ornaments available to you, Christmas angels come in a huge selection. You can find tall, slim ones or short round ones. You can get angels with tinsel wings or ones with glass wings. Even the colour of the angel’s robes is quite a decision.

The materials these angels come in cover a wide range. You can find fiber optic angels that will light up the tip of the tree in a rainbow of beautiful Christmas colours.

For those with a gold colour scheme, this 10 inch angel will look gorgeous. The fact that she lights up is an added bonus.

If you prefer the kind of angels your parents probably picked, then you’re looking for the cone bottom angels that have a thin plastic piece wired into place and the light or lights go up inside the cone to light the angel.

Do be cautious with these if you don’t have cool touch lights. The regular lights can get too hot under the angel. You can find angels carefully crafted out of heavy glass for your tree and you can find antique ones too.

When you’re seeking the right angel for your tree, don’t forget to shop around. Many upscale department stores have a nice selection of figures for the treetop, but if you want a wider variety or a more unique angel, you’ll have to look at online shops.

So what do you do if you are not keen on angels or stars? Or they don’t really go with the theme you are trying to create? Well there are a few additional choices.

If you don’t really like the star, how about a snowflake? This adds the element of height, looks pretty and is fairly neutral.
